Snapdeal goes truly mobile

Snapdeal.com is offering a discount on mobile phone services. Its users do not need to carry print outs to avail the offer or discount.

 Snapdeal.com, one of India's popular discount and deal websites, has announced the introduction of a voucher of phone service. The new service allows users of snapdeal.com to avail deals bought from the website without having to carry a print out of the deal. The transaction is carried out through the SMS message that the customer gets on the registered mobile number after buying a deal.


As compared to the earlier process, which involved a physical voucher having to be carried around to avail the offer, the user now just needs to show the shop attendant the SMS, or the email containing the voucher number if he is using a GPRS connected phone.

Ignighter To Launch Mobile App; Targets South-East Asia


Group dating site Ignighter.com is in the process of launching a mobile application in India. The mobile app would add a revenue stream to the company, which currently monetises its site via an annual subscription fee and virtual goods (gifts). Incidentally, India has 811.59 million users as of March, 2011, compared to the total broadband subscriber base of 11.87 million.
In a video interview with VCCircle, Ignighter CEO Adam Sachs said, “You will see a mobile app coming from Ignighter which we don’t currently have. That’s a part of the long-term product goal. We are currently on track to being one of the largest sites in India.”

Speak Asia clarifies over wrongly claiming clients


Survey group Speak Asia Online (SAOL) today said it has worked for companies such as Bata, Nestle,Airtel, ICICI and ING Vysya but has not provided commissioned services to them amidst media reports that the company had falsely claimed them as their clients.
"We have interacted and worked with these companies. But we have not provided any commissioned services to them," Speak Asia India's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar, told reporters here.
SAOL is a company where consumers pay around Rs 11,000 for a membership which will allow them to conduct some surveys online for the firm.

Another Dot-com Boom


A dot-com boom in India is attracting major venture capitalists and other investors from the U.S. and Europe. Modeled on companies like Amazon, Groupon, eBay and Netflix, the Indian firms are overcoming infrastructural constraints such as low Internet penetration to generate impressive revenues and expand their customer bases. It’s a matter of time before e-commerce picks up speed in India, according to Wharton faculty and some dot-com entrepreneurs.
Among the high fliers is Kunal Bahl, 29, founder and CEO of Delhi-based Jasper, better known by its ecommerce site SnapDeal.com. The online retailer sells discounted “perishable distressed inventory” of products and services such as holiday getaways, beauty parlor and gym coupons, sunglasses and watches. A 2006 graduate from Wharton’s management and technology program, Bahl founded SnapDeal in February 2010. It is growing its subscriber base of four million by a million new users each month, and expects to have revenues of $20 million this year.
