In a move to win the hearts of fashion-savvy women mobile users, Indian handset maker Micromax has launched Bling 2, a successor to Bling Q55.

With its glossy finish frame made with Swarovski Zirconia, Bling 2 has an Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and numerous pre installed apps.

Nokia is the most sought after mobile phone in India, according to the findings of a research conducted by ViziSense on the 'interest in mobile phones online'.

The study, which cited data for the January-April 2011 period of all the users who searched for mobile handsets on ecommerce sites, said that 35 per cent of users searched for Nokia followed by 30 per cent for Samsung and 29 per cent for BlackBerry. Micromax came in a close 4th at 22 per cent.

Keeping Mother's Day in mind, Indian handset maker Micromax has started pre-booking for Bling 2, the successor of Bling Q55 mobile phone.

As reported by The mobile Indian earlier, Bling 2 will have a 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen and will run on Android 2.2. It will also have Bluetooth, GPRS, WAP, MMS, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Bling2, which is 3G and GPS enabled, has features like Swarovski keys, 3 megapixel camera, and 32GB external memory.

To pre book Micromax Bling 2, a customer has to visit the stores mentioned on their website (http://micromaxbling.com/) and pay Rs 500, and they will also get a complimentary Satya Paul clutch.

Micromax joined the Android handset bandwagon some time back with the launch of A60 priced at about Rs 7,000. Micromax A60 is one of the most affordable Android handsets available in the market.

Google bids for Modu mobile's patents

Modu, which made world's smallest phones, with an assortment of attachments, has filed for bankruptcy. Google has now shown interest in this companies' concepts and has bid to buy patents that Modu holds.

According to a report published in Cellular-news.com, Google has made a bid of USD $2 million to buy up the patent portfolio held by the failed Israeli phone manufacturer, Modu.

Google submitted the offer to the Tel Aviv District Court, which is handling Modu's liquidation. Google's bid is higher than Kensington Technology Corporation, which filled a bid in late March.

Google has been stepping up its efforts to buy wireless telecoms patents as a defensive move against being sued over the Android smartphone platform, and although a tiny amount compared to the USD $900 million bid for a block of Nortel patents, the portfolio comprises over 100 patents.

Although the concept of Modu and Google's Android based operating systems are as different as chalk and cheese, the concept seems to have attracted Google as it could be a perfect platform to target lower end of the device market.

The patents are the key assets held by the bankrupt handset manufacturer. It had attempted to develop a modular based phone, which while garnering widespread admiration, was never successfully commercialised.

It was even launched in India through a partnership with Micromax, though we do not have the numbers sold in India, the phone seems to have failed to take off in India.

Micromax to launch Wifi router this week

Micromax's Wifi router allows users to connect to a maximum of five Wifi enabled devices and it is not locked to any particular service provider, which means you can use a SIM from a GSM operator of your choice.

In a move to offer a simple way to have Wifi networks always and everywhere at the touch of a button, Indian handset player Micromax will launch a 3G pocket wireless (Wifi) router, MMX 400R, this week.

Sources familiar with the development in Micromax said to 'The Mobile Indian', "The Wifi router will be launched in the first week of May and will be available at all Micromax outlets for Rs 4,999."

Micromax MMX 400R can be connected to the internet via a SIM card activated with data services. It converts the data signal connection to Wifi, thus creating a Wifi hotspot, and provides a signal with a downloading speed up to 7.2 Mbps within a radius of 5-10 metres.
